What Started Your Achievement Hunting Journey?

My first recorded achievement dates back to 2009. Honestly, there wasn’t one specific game or achievement that got me hooked, although the Vidmaster Challenges in Halo were definitely memorable.

When I first got the Xbox 360, I didn’t even know achievements were a thing since they weren’t on the original Xbox. As I naturally became more aware of them, I started loving the satisfaction of hearing that achievement pop and feeling like I had accomplished something meaningful in the game. The timestamps on achievements also became something I appreciated because they let me look back on games I played years ago and relive those memories.

Achievements also push you to experience games in ways you normally wouldn’t. They take you to hidden areas, encourage different playstyles, and make you try challenges or features you may have otherwise skipped entirely.

Watching my overall Gamerscore grow made the grind even more rewarding, and now with the announcement of Gamerscore badges, it feels like all those years of grinding have even more value behind them.

Mixtape

Incredible coming of age indie. Definitely recommend playing especially for those that grew up in the 80’s/90’s. Fun for all regardless. Lots of missable but chapter select makes all achievements easy to backtrack.

Call of Duty 2

Man, this one took me back. Wish Call of Duty was still like this. With a little perseverance it’s not too bad other than grenade spam. This game looks great for its time and has some pretty wild missions where it is literal chaos. Definitely recommend!

I didn’t expect this game to be as good as it ended up being. It has its issues, mainly frame drops, but overall a good experience. Really looking forward to future games from this developer. Shorter than I was expecting.

I’m looking for a game that is shorter in story, achievements aren’t a huge grind, and still really fun to play (10-40hrs). To give you an idea I recently played through Pragmata, Mafia the Old Country, and Mouse PI for Hire and really enjoyed them. I love turn-based, first and third person, and a majority of genres. Most games I play are longer so I’ve just been looking for something that is less of a commitment. Not looking for any Telltale games or shovelware. Most Google recommendations are AI and what you would expect so I figured I’d come here where there is some variety.
