Boston accreditation training was a bust!
Okay I can’t speak for all sites but WOW today’s training was MESSY at UDAC. I completely get ironing out kinks but this didn’t even have a good foundation. The volunteers asked some really great, important questions that were also asked during the virtual training. Unfortunately, the managers still couldn’t answer them or provide insight into the system for accreditation when a volunteer spotted a weird categorization indicating everyone was “pending” even if they were approved already to receive their pass. Found out the guy who provided us our “on site” training had just been hired in March and did not seem to have anything but the basics for sharing. We were literally brought up in groups of 6 to watch him go through the help desk and distribution processes which was so ineffective. They could’ve projected everything on the larger screen and walked everyone through it. Also another manager was asking this guy for clarifications when he had been hired a month before him so shouldn’t he know..? It was just messy. This all doesn’t really fall on them, but on the team who provided this info to them. However, they didn’t exemplify great leadership by owning what they do and don’t know and reassuring that clear, concise answers will be had. It was practically empty as far as paid staff goes and many of us aren’t even at UDAC for our shifts but actually at Gillette. But there wasn’t a venue specific training for there so this felt like a big waste of time. My guess is they’re really understaffed which also feels like a huge red flag. They also (understandably) were strict about advance uniform pickup unless you have a shift in the next couple of days but it feels like the coordinators of this all really removed the “human” out of these events. There were people who drove 200 miles and will have to return in a couple of days simply to just grab their kits while managing jobs, daycare, etc. It makes me question how much I really want to support them if they can’t support us? Has anyone else had their onsite training? Was it good? Lol would love to know! Anyone else feeling super iffy? I was before but it got reinforced today. I don’t know what I was expecting nor what I’m hoping for but it wasn’t that.
