Funny Sedation Stories

Yesterday I had my 10th or 11th recto/colonoscopy (I know, I am a pro), and in my country it’s normal to get propofol as sedation. Works fast, wears off fast, no pain and back to normal within a few hours.

First off I am always amazed by how incredibly quick it works, literally seconds - but I am also amazed by the wake up.
I never recall the nurses waking me up, only when they push my bed out of the endoscopy room and then one of my family members is there. But I do actually remember saying some very random stuff those few seconds, before being fully conscious again.

I can recall having said something to the nurse about my cat (??)
Telling my mom the male nurse was cute (ugh)
And for three different scopes I have in panic said “I need to go to the bathroom!!!!!!” And them replying “yeah that’s normal” before I kind of drifted off again 😆

But the funniest is, I am in Spain. Spanish is not my first language; and yet I manage to communicate with them instinctively and half awake? Impressive?! 😂

Just to share something light on here today, do you have any random/silly colonoscopy stories?

Karma

Wearing panty liners and pads for a week straight, thinking it’s going better, putting some nice undies on today because it’s a good day.
Trusting the fart… but it’s a shart 🥰

I have perioral dermatitis and was prescribed antibiotics (Doxycycline) as well as metronidazole cream.

I haven’t started the antibiotics since I have been flaring for a while, started Rinvoq today and 60mg prednisone.

The dermatitis obv gets better on high doses of prednisone, so I am stuck in a vicious cycle.

Anyway, I read people get sometimes acne with Rinvoq but disappears with lower dosis. But sometimes also needs antibiotics to make it go away.

My question is, has anyone had to take Doxycyclin for skin issues, with their UC? And what was the outcome?

I’m terrified of making it all worse, but the perioral dermatitis needs a treatment, just don’t want to mix too many things at once.
Not scared of potential greasy Rinvoq face as it’s most likely temporary, but I would like to avoid antibiotics

Finally saw my GI after Jyseleca failure, I had to increase my prednisone to 30mg as I kept bleeding and had so much tenesmus and rectal pain.

He suggested Omvoh, which I declined. I failed Stelara already and I am really struggling mentally with this 6 months long flare. I want to try something faster.

He gave me the standard 45mg Rinvoq loading for 8 weeks but also 60mg (!!!!) prednisone for a week, then taper.

I’ve had UC for 5 years and never had more than 40mg.

I already struggle with the side effects at 40mg (hunger, anxiety, insomnia, shaking) so I am really apprehensive. He did say my weight made it totally ok for me to get such a high dose and it will help to start Rinvoq up. I am 85kg, btw.

To anyone wondering, I’ve been on prednisone for 6months non stop and never had moonface. But I’ve had everything else 😂

Anyone had 60mg before? I’m nervous it’s going to be hell

I thought I’d share something that has happened now 3 times, in case it happens to anyone else, although it’s more informative than help.

I have proctitis, and on 3 separate occasions my urethra (hole where you pee) has been stinging and burning, just like if I had a UTI. Except it’s not a UTI, I’ve never had one.

Turns out if your proctitis is inflammation is quite bad, it can impact the surrounding organs. Bladder, vagina etc being one of them.

Twice it happened near the first day of my period - and this 3rd time independent of period but I am in the middle of a severe proctitis flare. The past few days I also noticed some sort of vaginal cramping.

The burning feeling only lasts a few hours, helps to just shower hot water on the belly, hot water bottle, lay on the left side.

I also seriously recommend over-the-counter antispasmodic which helps tremendously with period cramps AND gastrointestinal cramps. It’s generally safe to take with proctitis (although obv ask a doctor first.)

Honestly, that pain together with the unbearable tenesmus, I want to cry.

But I thought I’d share in case anyone else randomly experiences it. This disease is awful.
