IEM Kraków vs Esports World Cup France for a first CS event surprise — which would you choose for a present ?

I need honest advice from people who have experienced major CS/esports events.
My boyfriend loves CS and I want to surprise him with his first big esports event.
At first I was planning IEM Kraków because everyone talks about the atmosphere there, but now that Esports World Cup is coming to France, I'm hesitating since it would be way easier and cheaper for us.
For people who experienced both kinds of events:
does EWC still feel as special for Counter-Strike fans, or is IEM on another level atmosphere-wise?
Which one would you pick for a first event? If you had to choose only one, what would you recommend?
I’d especially love opinions from people who care about crowd atmosphere and overall experience, not just production value.
