Received a civil summons, curious what the next step should be
Well, I need some advice.
Some horrible decisions led to $10,000 worth of credit card debt. I just received a civil summons stating a legal action has been filed against me, but no court dates or anything.
They sent was originally through Discovery, but apparently they have merged with Capitol One. I tried to call Discover but they referred me to Weltman, Weinberg, & Reis; a collection agency that is apparently handling the account now. I couldn’t get ahold of them today as they were already closed. I’m just looking for some sound advice as to how to approach the conversation when I talk to them tomorrow.
The real kicker of all of this is I’m fairly broke. We get by but I’m a stay at home parent now so money stays tight. I’ve got a couple things I could sell if this amount can be negotiated? Pretty clueless on all of this. I know I’ve messed up, just trying to fix it as cheaply as possible.
