I’m in the process of launching an independent women’s lifestyle print magazine called Sisterly, and one of my goals is to build genuinely worthwhile opportunities for artist rather than the usual vague “submit for exposure” model.

Before I finalize our contributor outreach, I’d love to hear directly from artists:

  • Where do you usually look for magazine/editorial submission opportunities?
  • Do you prefer direct invites, open submissions, themed calls, or commissioned work?
  • What would make a new indie magazine feel credible to you?

I’d really value honest input. I’d rather build something respectful and useful than repeat the usual mistakes. Thanks in advance for any guidance here!
