Upgrading state all road 4130
Hi all, I recently got a check from insurance from an accident that ruined my bike rack.
I bought a new used rack for 100 dollars and have 350 left over to upgrade my bike!
This past winter my derailer cables froze and drove my derailer into the rear wheel. It broke 8 spokes, 4 gears on the cassette, the derailer itself, the chain and some other odds and ends.
It's ridable but only with the bottom gears and it skips and falls out of gear all the time. I will be riding my bike to and from work this summer up and down some pretty substantial hills and will need all the gears plus something that is reliable.
My question is how should I upgrade/repair my bike? I need to at least rebuild the rear wheel with new spokes and cassette. Should I rebuild what I already have and bring it to a shop to get it assembled and built and ready to ride? Or should I buy a wheel with hub and spokes already attached then add my own cassette.
Right now I have the standard state all road 11spd drivetrain. It's never been super reliable and I want something a little nicer.
I also have Chinese cable actuated hydro brakes that are fine but nothing special. This is also on my upgrade list.
I am tempted to go from drop bars to flat bars and this would require buying all new shifters and brakes.
Anyways, my question is I'm a little overwhelmed by what needs to get done to make the bike rideable and what is just an upgrade. How should I approach upgrading my bike and what parts are worth it and what's not?
Thanks!
