Is it still worth it to go through the Elementary Go Series?

I bought the first few of the series 10+ years ago before AlphaGo. Because of AI, I think some of the theories have become outdated. Like some of the opening moves and joseki’s. Do you think it’s still worthwhile to study up on all the books for a DDK?

For people aged 40 and younger, does studying Go via books work for you?

I bought a number of Go books, but this way of studying does not seem to work for me. I was wondering if it’s because of my generation or if it’s just me and my short attention span. Videos and game reviews seem to be the most effective for me.

Does anyone else here think that the 6.5 Komi on a 9x9 need to re-evaluated?

I feel like I win more as White on a 9x9 because of this large Komi. Usually, I’ll score around 15-22 pts of territory as either color. An additional 6.5 is around 30% of 22 pts. That’s a huge slice. Does playing first really give you a 30% advantage on a 9x9?

It’s the first time I’ve seen Go mentioned in a book!

How do you stay calm during a Go fight?

Whenever I get into a fight where I'm trying to kill or I'm trying to live, my heart starts to race like crazy. In this situation, I think to myself, 'Is Go healthy for me? What will happen to me if I have this reaction when I'm very old? Heart attack?' LOL. Anyways, has anyone here felt the same way, but is now much calmer during fights? Was it because you just got used to it?

What happened to that game between a professional Go player who studied up on AI Go vs one of the AlphaGo's?

A while back, someone posted that a Pro Go player spent a lot of time studying AlphaGo or some version of it. Then he was going to play a game against it. I don't remember the name of the Pro or the AI bot he was up against. Does anyone here have news on that?

Can someone help review this game I just played? 15 kyu vs 14 kyu.

Or give me some pointers. I played as White. At move Q6, I felt I was losing, so I made a desperate attempt to invade. But was a losing??

Any tips for fill-in Tsumego problems?

I could have killed this entire White group had I just filled it in at A11. But I couldn't see it. I am bad at reading out Tsumego problems where you fill in your group, then let the opponent kill your group, and then you play one stone at the center to kill the opponent. I don't know how to see it with the stones filled. Aside from doing more of these problems, does anyone here have any tips on these types of Tsumegos? Are there just a few shapes I need to memorize.

Does anyone here have a profession that isn't part of STEM?

I'm wondering if there are Go players who work outside of STEM. What do you do?

STEM is Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

I think I can learn from reviewing someone else's game. But I don't know if a 15 kyu (me) is qualified to be reviewing anyone's game.

I have a tendency to focus on my weaknesses as areas of improvement. But it's also very advantageous (and maybe more worthwhile) on honing one's natural strengths / talents. Because I focus so much on weaknesses (like Life/Death), I don't know what my strengths are in Go. Looking for ideas. What are yours?
