So I was looking into the new renters right act, and i’m wondering how it can apply to my current house?
I’m renting a student house with a total of 8 of us, pretty sure that’s called a joint tenancy? we had to pay for 11 months of rent, even though the last 2 are over the summer holidays and we wouldn’t have uni.
if we gave our 2 months notice now, so we would move out in july, can we get refunded for the july-august period where the house isn’t in use?
we’ve already paid all the rent, can we get a refund with this new renters rights act?
the contract has a specified end date, but with my very quick research does the new renters rights act automatically change this into a periodic, open ended tenancy? which would allow us to give 2 months notice, leave in july and get a refund for the rent in july and august?
would we all have to agree to move out at an earlier date, or can I just get a refund individually if other people want to stay on over the summer?
