Argentine Football Association Reportedly Under FBI Investigation
The Argentine Football Association (AFA) is reportedly at the center of major investigations in both the United States and Argentina over allegations of money laundering, fraud, and tax evasion.
In the U.S., the FBI and federal prosecutors are reportedly examining whether hundreds of millions of dollars linked to the AFA were funneled through a Florida-based company and the U.S. financial system. Meanwhile, Argentine authorities have carried out raids on AFA headquarters, the national team’s training complex in Ezeiza, and at least 17 professional clubs as part of a separate investigation into an alleged $560 million tax evasion and money laundering scheme.
Prosecutors have also reportedly requested the arrests of AFA President Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia and Treasurer Pablo Toviggino while investigating suspicious loans, sponsorship agreements, and other financial transactions. The expanding investigations have cast significant uncertainty over the federation as the 2026 FIFA World Cup continues.
