I recently lucked into a pile of old Dragon magazine issues from the 1980s. They're loved but in decent shape, but a few of them are showing wear on the covers, around the staples or crease.

I'd love to repair and preserve them in a way that keeps them easily readable (so no sealing them in a poly bag). I don't really care about keeping them in mint condition, but the covers are great and I'd hate to cover more of it than I need.

Does anyone have suggestions for getting these into reading shape? Or advice for reading them without adding more damage? Do I just stretch some cello tape over the spines and cross my fingers?
