[SIOS RAID WARGAME] What botching Combat Air Patrol did to (Parpaldian) battle fleet:
In this battle, for every 1 Altarans casualties there approximately 346 Parpaldians casualties.
In this battle, for every 1 Altarans casualties there approximately 346 Parpaldians casualties.
Usually, during Wargame, there is a lot happening that makes recounting what happened an absolute chore. This time however, the Parpaldian got mog so hard so quickly I can actually broadly tell what happened fairly easily cus the Parpaldian manages to lose the engagement within 2 hours and 15 minutes in-game time. For reference, an average NHS wargame naval engagement length is 8 in-game hours
If there are things I found both sides have in common during this operation is that practically no one on both sides has proper Combat Air Patrol going over their head. The Altaras team won because they managed to find the Parpaldian formations first and muster their strike earlier and hit them before the Parpaldian can do the same to them.
It also doesn't help for the Parpaldians team that their Air Commander orders their CAP to RTB for refuel and rearmed when their replacements are in the air yet. That plus a combination of mismanaged CAP zone mean their CAP was out of position when Altaran strike comes and they can attack at their leisure because there isn't anything that is breaking up their formation (they have AA of course but CAP is more effective at that) allow the Altarans to concentrate attack on Parpaldian capital ships.
On the Altaran team meanwhile, their CAP can be characterized by being very understrength across the board with the Light Carrier formation only have a pair fighter for CAP while other formation just have no CAP at all. Even their airfield doesn't have much in CAP as they only have a flight of 4 fighters to protect each of their airfields. They were lucky that Parpaldian airstrike didn't come in time before the game end or the casualties count would look very very different.
”To any Altarans military units listening. This is the fishing ships Stella Marina and Amore Mio, we spotted a lone Parpaldian 4 engines bomber aircraft wandering off the coast. The plane is currently heading East at couple hunderds knots”
In a rare and significant display of diplomatic alignment, the United Kingdom of Mu and the Holy Milishial Empire have jointly announced a "Selective Exclusion Zone" within the Altaras Strait area. The decision surprised many as both nations are dealing with the reorganization of their respective nation's strategic defense due to the recent appearance of the Gra Vakas Empire in the far west.
The move comes as concerns mount in both Ohaitei and Runepolis regarding the safety of neutral merchant shipping. Officials cited the increasing risk of collateral damage and "stray fire" resulting from the escalating naval conflict between the Kingdom of Altaras and the Parpaldian Empire. Others somewhat unsubstantiated claims that the move happened to garner good will from Japan in hope of achieving arms deals with them as the Rondenius War of 1639 have leaves something of an impression to many military observers who were there on what the Japanese military equipments could to what they considered hostile to Japanese interests.
Altaras Regia Marina’s Marconi-class Cruiser Submarine
According to the joint decree announced by their Foreign Affairs ministry, they shall impose the following restrictions on all belligerent forces within the Strait:
- All submarine combat operations by either belligerent are strictly forbidden within the designated zone.
- Any submarine attempting to transit to ports and naval bases in the Altaras Strait for maintenance and other non combat tasks is required to remain surfaced for the duration of the passage.
- All commerce-raiding activities in the strait area must be conducted solely by surface vessels and must adhere strictly to established international prize laws and rules of Cruiser Warfare.

To ensure safety of international commerce, both great powers have authorized a massive naval presence in the region.
The Muish Royal Navy has deployed Force P, a formidable task group centered around the 64,000-ton aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal and the 58,000-ton battleship HMS Avincourt, supported by a full escort screen.

The Armada de La Imperial Milishial has dispatched the 60,000-ton aircraft carrier LHA Magnolia. She will join the Far East Ravernal Research Squadron, which currently consist of the 67,000-ton Ship-of-the line LHA Älvstad and LHA Custoza alongside their escort details.

This joint neutrality patrol will conduct continuous patrols for the duration of the Altaras-Parpaldia conflict. Any vessel found in violation of the submarine ban will be treated as a hostile threat to international commerce.
P/S: Some early war news article when the war between Altaras and Parpaldia just started
Some small lore shenanigans for my wargame timeline
B-10 Fulmine* has been a great source nuisance for the Parpaldian Aerial Corps since the start of the 4th Altaras-Parpaldian war last August.
The Fulmine with it 342km/h top speed allowed them to run away from practically all of Parpaldian fighter aircrafts as due to their nature being a land power, most of their aerial assets are designed for ground support first, fighting other aircrafts second which means their fighters are generally look more like really fast and agile bombers than true fighters. It also doesn't help them that the Wyvern Mafia, the ones behind the development of the Wyvern Overlord is in the control of the Aerial Corps pourcument in recent years push most of the funding to the Wyvern project instead of better interceptors despite many object to this as the Wyvern is reaching their limits in capabilities in term of being a cost efficient fighter and interceptor in comparison to Muish and Milishials style aircrafts.
For the Wyverns Lords and Overlords themselves, while they have better straight line speed to catch the B-10, their limited service ceiling of 4000m and generally poor climbing rate prevent them from being a truly effective countermeasures with the majority of B-10 Fulmine casualties having been attributed to ground based AA while interception have claimed relatively few in comparison
Note: Fulmine is lightning in Italian
