Will Microsoft Defender be able to defend my computer if i Attach different SSD that's infected (which isn't the boot drive).

I have 2 SSDs. One that I have a fresh install of Windows, and another about to be connected SSD that only contains documents and is infected. Can windows defender stop the secondary drive from infecting my main drive

Can windows defender stop the secondary drive from infecting the original one i have if i attach it to the PC. Will i be able to scan the secondary drive safely for malware.
