I’ve worked at previous clinics that had schedules made for what crafts we would do on certain days and group activities for the other, but I wanted to know (if possible) how does your clinics that you work at come up with these schedules? I recently got promoted to lead and I’m over also helping coordinate the arts & crafts and group activities. I’m thinking about creating a schedule where some crafts are repeated because honestly, it feels unrealistic trying to plan out different crafts for 5 days out the week for the entire year😭😭any tips or suggestions?

Just because YOU haven’t experienced racism in this field, does not mean that this is someone else’s truth. I’m truly getting sick and tired of people thinking they’re more culturally competent and progressive than they are but when these posts come up their true colors are revealed (pretends to be shocked). I’ve already made a post like this in the past, but here’s a new reminder.

When black women and men speak on their experiences in this field, you should NOT take it upon yourself to try to diminish what they’ve been through or try to talk over their experience just because you don’t believe them. The issue is that too many people hear Black people speak about their experiences and immediately jump to minimizing, defending, or debating instead of asking, “What can be done to support you moving forward?” Ask yourself why you think it’s okay to do in a moment where someone is being vulnerable about their experience in a predominantly white field that’s looking for advice or support? That reaction alone should make some of you reflect on your own racial biases. If your first instinct is to dismiss, downplay, or talk over someone’s lived experience with racism instead of listening, then you are contributing to the very problem you claim doesn’t exist. Racism is still a very real issue everywhere, and invalidating people when they speak on it only reinforces it.

To the others that truly uplift and provide encouraging words when people come forward about this even if they can’t relate, THANK YOU. We need MORE of this. I’ve been in this field for 4 years and have had more bad experiences than good. But I’ve stayed because I’m genuinely passionate about it despite my woes of going through extreme burnouts being that I’m neurodivergent myself and because we need more black RBTs with experience to eventually become black behavior analysts in this field!

To the other black women and men in this field, know that your feelings ARE valid. You are not making things up, but you are also needed. Even though we’ve all heard the saying you have to work twice as hard, this should NOT apply to your cases. You DO NOT have to continuously take on the rough cases just because management feels like you can handle it while your counterparts get the easier cases. You do not have to experience racism and just shut up about it because it’s an uncomfortable topic. I would not have made it as far as I’ve made it in this field if I didn’t have boundaries and wasn’t very willing to walk away from a job if my boundaries are crossed. Please speak up more! You can very much request off cases if they become too much or if you feel like you don’t have the support that’s needed to provide ethical services! It is 100% okay to leave a company if you feel discriminated against too. I want you to remember YOUR power, and to remember that you are not “being sensitive” for speaking up about your experience. You are allowed to take up space, you are allowed to step into your truth even if it makes others uncomfortable. They don’t want to hear about it? Good, talk about it more. Because it’s an issue that NEEDS to be talked about.
