Pregnancy, Probation, Sick leave, Maternity Leave
I’m 7 months into my 12 month probation period and recently found out I’m pregnant. All going well I’d be due in early May 2027. I’m due to finish probation in March 2027.
From what I’ve read, if I need to take sick leave during my probation I can take up to 23 days at full pay and 23 days at half pay. It looks like once I’ve passed probation that goes way up to 92 days/year at full pay.
I’m wondering:
- If I need to take sick leave during the probation, does that extend my probation? From some reading i don’t think that’s the case but at work I’ve been told differently verbally
- If I take the full 46 days of sick leave due to pregnancy, can that count against me in the probation review as they could say I’m not demonstrating an ability to do the job?
- Are those 23 probationary sick leave days counted into the 92 or does it reset once you pass the probation?
This is my second pregnancy and I was unwell a good bit the first time round so expecting similarly this time unfortunately and want to know what to expect
