Starter "Anvil" from an old fork

First time posting here, thought y'all might enjoy this: my starter anvil made from an old forklift fork! 4140-ish steel.

I started by cutting off the shank (vertical part, you can still see the top hook) and cleaning the surface. It measured ~22.5" x 2" x 6" and roughly 75lb.

I tried hammering some rebar on it, and it took WAY more work than I'd thought.

Looking into why real anvils "hit back" and learned about the vertical mass under the work surface being responsible for that.

I also needed a hardy hole, and racked my brain on how to get it...

I ended up cutting a 1" slot in one end, then welding another section of fork onto the end and smoothing it out.

Then, I took the largest section of fork I had left, cut a longer 1" slot on one end, and welded it to the underside.

All in all, it took a Class 4 fork, eight or ten 4" cut-off disks, two grinding disks, and eight 7018 sticks... All free from work 😅

It weighs in around 120lb now, and does hit back!

I'm very pleased, but what do you think?
