How real is the cost of living crisis Ireland.

I’m a man in my mid 30’s so I left college in the recession so no money, parents had no real wealth, my first 10 years of working were salaries of 20 to 30k (good for the time) and although I have never been flush I would say I have always been comfortable. I have a wife and one child, both of us have normal jobs and she has been stay at home mum for the past two years. We are comfortable and had a good bit saved for buying our house. I really can’t understand the cost of living “crisis” rhetoric, in a recent discussion with friends I was shocked to hear the salary they were on, big money two of them are in construction, two teachers on over 70k and a guard on over 85k when he included his over time and event work.

How are these people tight on money or is it just a case of the Irish thing of crowd complaining

Also the holidays that people go on, the fashion, the concerts, the races the cars …the average person is living a hell of a lifestyle for a cost of living crisis

And before you say “it’s only a few that have money that’s not the average” have a look at the cars at the school gate you wouldn’t see solicitors driving cars like it 10 years ago

Return to Gaelic football, shock!

Hi all,

I’m a real average club player, 34, and my only good trait is I know my limitations and so I try to mess up as little as possible

I was playing on our club first team up to two years ago but was always under pressure to keep my place, I’d be hugely committed so I’d say that’s why I got the nod ahead of better players

Anyway we had a little baby that was very sick so I quick football two years ago (Oct 2024) and have only returned this week….savagely out of shape and a big mountain to climb.

My biggest issue is I have been building it up to this idea of “I’d love to get back to football” but after a weeks training I have realised I don’t like it at all….i love the training drill and the fitness part but I hate the matches, like I don’t want to get on the ball because I’m nervous about fucking up….its so weird i am a mid thirties man with my own business, im relatively successful, I have a house and a wife and family and when im on the pitch and make a mistake im back down to being a 10 year old feeling shite about myself.

It is literally the only social outlet in my area so I don’t know what else to do, surely I can’t be the only one who’s crap at football and doesn’t enjoy the competitive side of it
