Is it normal for guys to pee outside at parties?

I'm a 20-year-old guy living in the US, and my parents own a pretty big house with a backyard where I regularly have friends over for parties and pregames before going out.

One thing I've noticed is that some of my friends will just wander off behind the garage and pee in the bushes rather than go inside and use the bathroom. The first time I saw someone do it, I was pretty grossed out, but over time I realised it's apparently a normal thing for some of them. Nobody really questions it.

For context, I'm not white (Im asian), and most of my friends who do this are white. I'm not trying to make it a racial thing, but I didn't grow up thinking this was normal behaviour, so I'm wondering if it's a cultural difference or just a thing some guys do.

There's also one friend who gets absolutely hammered and takes it to another level. I've seen him pee in a pot plant before, and recently he's started just peeing in the bushes right next to where everyone is sitting and drinking, without even trying to find somewhere private.

I genuinely don't understand the appeal when there's a perfectly good bathroom inside the house. I can maybe understand going behind a tree if you're camping or somewhere without a toilet, but doing it at someone's house seems weird to me.

Is this actually a common thing at house parties in the US? Is it just a drunk guy thing, or is it considered normal even when you're sober? And do most people genuinely not care, or are my friends just unusually comfortable with it?

Is it normal for people to pee outside here?

I’m 18 and in my second year of uni in the UK. I moved here when I was 15 and I come from a fairly conservative culture/background. But most of my mates are white/British. Because I was 17 during first year, I didn’t really go to many uni events, especially the drinking ones. This year we had our first big event and I offered to host pres at my house since I live at home and most people in my year live in student accommodation.

About 40 guys came over. Around 15 were my actual friend group and the rest were friends of friends etc. We were all in the back garden drinking before heading out. People were loud, throwing drinks around a bit, shouting, which was honestly a bit rowdy but kind of what I expected.

What surprised me though was I noticed groups of guys disappearing round the side of the house and coming back a few minutes later. Eventually I checked and they were literally just peeing in the bushes. I didn't say anything cos I was a bit awkward but it struck me as a bit odd.

Then a little while later I went out to the front to grab something from my car. I saw three guys sitting on the front porch obviously quite drunk. One of them got up and just started peeing onto the lawn.

Then while we were waiting for Ubers, a couple of them were peeing in the front garden in full view of everyone, including me, and nobody seemed bothered at all. Is this normal?

Is it normal here to pee outside when drinking?

I grew up in a pretty conservative culture outside the US, so I genuinely don’t know if this is normal American behaviour or not.

My son had friends over after a pub crawl/bar crawl for his 21st. Before he had arrived home, I watched two of his college friends get out of their Ubers and casually pee in the bushes on our driveway. They seemed completely unembarrassed. I went outside and one of them literally kept peeing while chatting to me and saying hi.

I’m nonwhite and most of my son’s friends are white American guys, so I don’t know if there’s some cultural difference here. I found it incredibly disrespectful. Is this genuinely common US college/drinking culture or were these guys just rude?
