Do you think this pair will become canon? If so, I'm kinda concerned how they're gonna write them from now on.
I'll be honest with you guys, I've never been a huge fan of "shipping", but it's a big part of the OW community and we've got it for years now, which has inspired a lot of genuinely good artwork by fans. Wuyang x Juno seems to be decently popular and I can see how it could work. The thing is, the way Blizzard writers have been handling it in the Undivided comic feels corporate, for lack of a better word. Now, I'm aware this might just be teasing to create engagement (like this post) and leaving them as friends, and those of you might see this image and say "what the fuck is romantic about this?". If you're not caught up to the comic and avoiding spoilers, here's the thing...
The moment Wuyang appeared, he's been glued to Juno's panels. She aids him while he's injuried and since then he's pretty much the only interaction with other character's she's had, except a very brief sleepover with Hana and Brigitte. Juno was supposed to receive and train Anran and Wuyang, yet she hasn't really said a word to Anran and only shook Wuyang's hands and welcomed him. The story has been moving at a snail's pace (they have to drag it to make it to 40 episodes), and supposing Juno's the advertised central face of the story, most of what we see about her is that she's talking to or interacting with him in a way that doesn't really feel organic. She lost her home, her family is still in a dire situation at Mars, and all that tension was left the moment they started writing their interactions together. Some are cute and funny, but again, it just feels like Blizzard wanting the chinese public in specific to use Wuyang as a sort of self insert, being that Juno is a really popular character in China and well, he's the young, chinese male representative.
So, my concern is that instead of caring to write authentic bonds and let Juno act as our proxy to explore the situation and characters, this pair might be reduced to just a silly romantic pair for marketing purposes. D.Va, Mei, Brigitte; they're all characters who've been in the game for a while and have gone underdeveloped for long, this comic and their relationship to Juno would be a great chance to expand upon, but they've been relegated to background cameos, for example. We know the uh... NetEase competition already makes bank with couple skins and voicelines, so a synical part of me seems like they want to turn two of their most popular characters into a thing for the sake of revenue. For me it removes the charm.
If you see how Twitter reacted to Blizzard's official account teasing the pair, you'll know that at least this side of the world wasn't very fond of the idea. This pair doesn't seem to have the impact pairings such as Genji x Mercy, Pharah x Mercy or Reindhart x Ana have (stories that the community has wanted to see develop for a while), and considering the appeal Juno and Wuyang have, there's lots of fans that have made their own headcanons concerning the characters, and confirming/denying anything about their romantic identities would make more dedicated fans "lose" than "win". I don't know if I'm expressing myself correctly.
Anyways, long post, sorry, I'm autistic and OW is pretty much my hyperfixation right now, so yeah, I just wanted to place my feelings and thoughts somewhere and see what others thought about it, IF anyone actually does besides me, lol.
