Hi everyone,

I was looking at some historical satellite imagery of the Eastern Shore of Sri Lanka on Google Earth and noticed something really disturbing.

Between 2011 and 2024, there is a clear timeline showing that a specific 5-star hotel in Passikuda, seems to have removed a massive section of the coral reef directly in front of their property - likely to create a "clearer" swimming area for guests.

I’ve attached the screenshots showing the progress:

  • June 2011: Natural reef structure is clearly visible.
  • Sept 2011: Initial signs of clearing/disturbance.
  • Oct 2013 & April 2024: A massive rectangular "hole" where the reef used to be.

This isn't just a small patch; it looks like an industrial-scale excavation of a protected marine ecosystem. It’s frustrating to see our natural resources destroyed for short-term luxury. Would appreciate any advice on how to bring more eyes to this.
