DRIVE-BY SERMON: What Care We For The Blasphemy Of The Unbelieving? Christ In Himself Is Inviolate.
"Speak the words you will...they matter not to me. If such as you can be a god...what then shall we call the great Galactus...what name must be given him who possesses...power absolute!"
-Galactus to Thor in the comic: The Mighty Thor #160 (Marvel Comics, 1968)
In the fifth and final season of the Amazon Prime television series, The Boys, there was a fair amount of blasphemy in the dialogue toward Jesus Christ, as the main antagonist, Homelander, boldly claimed that he would replace the Christian God and Jesus Christ as the God to be worshipped by Americans. There was even a dance number in which Christ was denounced as incompetent and useless to humans as there seemed to be no Power, other than that of Homelander's, that was visible and could be used to actively control and prevent evil.
In a 1966 interview with the London Evening Standard, John Lennon stated that the Beetles were more popular than Jesus. Christians at the time railed against the comment.
They shouldn't have, nor should there be any outrage at the ridiculousness of Eric Kripke's denouncement of Christianity in The Boys.
Why?
Well, regardless of what any unbeliever states about Jesus Christ, particularly in a disrespectful and skeptical manner, always remember that the true Jesus, the real Jesus, is and can only be found and known in the Bible, between the sixth word in the first verse of the first chapter of Matthew to the statement:
"The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen." -Revelation 22:21.
Everything stated regarding Jesus not deriving from these and the text between these two verses is counterfeit and meaningless. The Christian, therefore, should not "blow a gasket" in the face of blasphemy but should coolly respond to any statement rendered by the skeptical and blasphemous in the way Galactus responded to Thor:
"Speak the words you will...they matter not to me...."
Nothing matters in regard to Jesus save what was written between Matthew 1:1 and Revelation 22:21. This is our North Star, our guidepost, the only reality on this side of the grave in regard to our Lord. Everything, and I mean everything, that comes out of the mouth of any nonbeliever is worthless nonsense...if it does not reflect or align with the content between Matthew 1:1-Reveleation 22:21.
As God states in Psalm 82:5:
"They know nothing...they understand nothing. They walk about in darkness, as all the foundations of the earth are shaken."
In the end, who cares what they have to say---as they entirely miss the point and will continue to miss the point because what they say about Christ does not derive from Jesus Himself.
Because everything a saved person does is done through Christ in either of the dual forms 2 Corinthians 5:21 or Romans 8:29 (in terms of God-pleasing righteousness).
