What happens when one House is in multiple administrative realms?

I was looking over the Extra Administrative Realms options, and wondered what they'd be useful for. (Beyond just mixing Administrative mechanics with different cultures, petty arguments over historical accuracy, and cheesing a couple achievements, I mean.)

Most of these involved creating multiple adjacent/nearby administrative realms (probably the Carolingian Quartet) and manipulating my house into prominent positions in all four over the course of several generations.

But, uh, would that actually work? A house only has one head; can a family have a presence in an administrative realm if its head is elsewhere? Would the lack of an in-realm house head cause problems? Would it be better to just start cadet houses before establishing a presence in each new realm?
