Crunchy

Hi all. Almost 6 months out. Obviously had some set backs along the way (see king history of posts 🤦🏼‍♀️). I got PRP with hyaluronic acid (and they drained about an oz and a half of fluid) in July and it helped for a few weeks but starting last week my knee is crunchy. You can hear it and feel it (both me in the knee and my physio with his hand on it). It’s in the patella area. Physio doesn’t seem excited by it. Surgeon is in the US and I’m in the UK so no answers there.

Anyone have this experience?

Otherwise things are quieting down a bit, less sliding out, less popping, and I’m back doing real workouts again.

5 Months out - knee giving away and pain

Had an MRI two weeks ago but my surgeon was traveling and then in the OR all week and getting super ancy and worried so coming here for ideas (understanding yes, I’ll listen to whatever my surgeon says too). The day after the MRI my almost two year old also jumped in the deep end of the pool and I sprinted to jump in and get him so that wasn’t ideal 🤦🏼‍♀️ Didn’t hurt when I did it but swelled like mad right after. I did get a x ray that showed my screws came out a bit but it was read by a general doc in the NHS not my surgeon yet.

I’ve had a super hard recovery to begin with. I had a different user name - Mammoth something (Reddit picked it) but with a new phone I couldn’t get it back. But I’m the one who went back to the UK a month after surgery and constantly had pain over the MPFL area. Four grafts and a TTO.

I flew back to Florida to see some World Cup games and get an MRI. Timing was poor as my surgeon ended up going on holiday while I was there.

But the knee is getting worse, not better. I’ve noticed three times it hurts the most - if I’m sitting with my legs out and my foot has naturally fallen where my toes point to the side and then I bring them back up straight. It pops and hurts. So when doing PT I have to be super careful.

Next is turning my hips, not even pivoting on my foot but like last night I was at the sink and turned to grab a dish someone was handing me.

Finally, carrying my kids on my hips now is a no go. Has to be a piggy back ride or on my front like a monkey. They’re 3.5 and almost 2 and 35 and 30 lbs respectively (tall kids).

Basically my knee almost feels like it slide out of place. Or doesn’t come down right on top of how it should be when I step. My knee slides out forward or forward and left.

I’m also now out in the Beach Cities of LA and the deep sand is not my friend but also I think it’s helping work the stabilizer muscles.

I’ve found that if I get on the stationary bike in the morning and do my exercises it helps but doesn’t prevent it. Going up stairs normal is still a no go. And weirdly doing the basic exercise where you sit with your knee bent and bring your foot up to straighten your leg is still near impossible.

Physio is back in the UK and doc doesn’t seem to have any urgency.

Anyone have similar experience? Any exercise that might help? Or ideas? Appreciate it!
