Anyone too afraid to eat?
I had my removal two weeks ago after weeks of being incredibly sick and no doctor taking me seriously. The pain is definitely gone from my GB, so the surgery was absolutely needed, but now I’m so afraid to get sick again and food in my stomach makes me sick.
At my follow up, everything looked good, so my surgeon chalked this lingering nausea up to anxiety.
Part of it is truly physiological nausea and a reaction to food (rice noodles plain, toast, rice cereal, etc makes me nauseous quickly), but some of it absolutely is anxiety.
Sometimes eating just genuinely makes me sick and I run to vomit, sometimes the anxiety and the unbearable feeling of food in my stomach makes me so uncomfortable that I end up inducing vomiting myself.
My surgeon prescribed me Reglan since other anti-nausea pills weren’t doing anything, and it seems to have at least delayed the nausea and discomfort, but now hours later I’m struggling with food in my stomach.
I guess what I’m asking is has anyone else struggled with anxiety around eating anything post op? If so, what did you do to overcome it?
I’m usually an active person (lifting 4-5 times per week and other cardio exercises), and I have a one year old to keep up with, so obviously this mental block with eating isn’t something I can keep up.
