Hey everyone,

I’m gonna be a sophomore next year and I’ve been thinking a lot about whether I should switch my major from CS to MIS. I wanted to get some outside opinions because I feel kind of stuck.

So far I’ve taken CS 1301, CS 1302, CS 1730, and CS 2610. I don’t hate CS, but I also don’t really love the super technical classes. I like coding sometimes and I really enjoy hackathons and building stuff, but a lot of the coursework just doesn’t keep me that interested.

MIS seems more like my vibe because it feels like a mix of tech and business, and I’m really into the entrepreneurial side of things. The only thing is I’m worried about switching now and being behind on requirements or basically “wasting” the CS classes I already took. I’m also not sure how different MIS really is day-to-day—like I know there’s stuff like accounting and business classes that are pretty different from CS.

Another thing is I just haven’t really clicked with CS socially that much. I like working on projects, but I don’t always feel super connected with people in the major.

I guess I just feel a little lost and I’m trying to figure out if switching would actually make sense or if I should just stick it out.

Would love to hear any advice from people who’ve been in CS/MIS or switched between them.
