Confession. I've been a PM for 3 years and I've been faking AI knowledge in standups for 6 months
Ok this is kinda unflattering but I'm posting anyway.
I've been a PM for 3 years now and for the past six months my engineers keep throwing around stuff like "agentic eval harness" or "RAG with reranking" in standup and I just nod, write it down, then google everything later.
Last week one of my eng leads asked me a direct question about it in standup and I completely froze, mumbled something that didn't make sense. after the meeting my staff eng pulled me aside and told me, pretty kindly tbh, that I should probably do a proper course on this stuff. he wasn't wrong.
How did you guys close the gap without making it obvious to your team that you'd let yourself fall this far behind. did you just power through some courses on the side or did you bring it up openly with your manager.
