I quit my job to build a “Love Is Blind” dating app. Launching in Seattle this week. Here’s what I’ve learned.

After watching Love Is Blind, I became obsessed with the idea that voice-first connections lead to deeper relationships. So I built Aura — a dating app where you match through voice conversations in “pods” before ever seeing each other’s photos.

The concept:
• Match based on voice compatibility and conversation chemistry
• Have 3 “pod dates” (voice calls) with your match
• If both people feel sparks, photos gradually reveal
• Then decide if you want to meet in person

Why Seattle first:
• The “Seattle Freeze” is a real phenomenon — people struggle to make genuine connections
• Seattle was the setting for Love Is Blind Season 4, so the concept resonates locally
• Dense tech population that’s open to trying new apps

What I’ve learned building this:
1. The cold-start problem is brutal for dating apps — you need density in one city before expanding
2. Voice-first eliminates 90% of the superficiality complaints people have about dating apps
3. The “reveal” mechanic creates genuine excitement that swiping never does

We’re opening our waitlist now (auradating.us) and offering 6 months free Premium to the first 300 signups. Would love feedback from this community on the go-to-market strategy. AMA about building a dating app in 2026!
