Advice Needed: Turning Assitance That Holds Patient In Place
Does anyone know of a device that assists in turning a bedbound patient on their side & holds them in place while a caregiver changes them?
My home hospice father has alzheimer's & has been bedbound since November of 2024. Up until recently, he's been able to reliably hold on to the bed rail & help hold himself in position while I or my sitter cleaned & changed out his breifs.
He's started showing prolonged sundowning symptoms & I'm having to give him a seroquel/trazodone combo followed by clonazepam 3 or 4 hours later to get him to sleep. Problem is that he's experiencing next day sedation in the morning & unable to assist in hold himself turned.
My sitter has health issues that are making it hard for her to hold him turned without his help. She might not be able to stay with him if this continues. Complicating everything is that Dad is heading into terminal agitation. If he doesn't sleep, I have to keep a constant watch to keep him from tearing his bedding up. He HAS to sleep so that I can sleep.
She is a VERY good caregiver & I'd hate to lose her services. As mentioned above, I'm trying to find a way to assist in turning Dad onto his side, strap him to the rail so as to hold him on his side, and leaves his hips an buttocks uncovered so we can clean him & change his briefs.
I've seen some sling type things on Walmart & Amazon, but they all look like cheap Chinese no brand crap.
I'd appreciate any help or advice.
