Split corrugated downspouts: need to replace?
My brick 3 story house has box gutters and the 2 corrugated downspouts at the front of the house along the 1st-2nd story from have split along their back sides. It seems likely that ice was the culprit, especially as we had so much snow this year (more than usual), although they may have been split before this year and I didn't notice. I don't know how old the existing downspouts are, but they are certainly not new.
I have a roofer coming to do some fairly minor work on the gutters and while I have no hesitation to replace them if it really needs to be done I am wondering whether it is worth it and/or necessary to have to these downspouts replaced.
My concern is that new downspouts may just split the same way the old ones did the next time we have a winter like this past one. I don't know how old the existing downspouts are, but they are certainly not new. They are painted to match the trim so that will also need to be done to the new ones or it will look silly.
I understand that people always recommend work be done if they are the ones being paid to do it so I would appreciate advice from people who don't stand to make any money off my decisions :)
