Is punching your jaw back common for us?

I think I must look like a crazy person, so I am trying to gage if this is something a group of people do or if I need to stop at least in front of others.

Usually do it when I wake up in the morning and my jaw is offset too much to one side (side sleeper). It has a stuck taught feeling. And I punch it (lightly) back towards the middle. Still is sore and stuck ish but is at least centered.

Obviously in the privacy of my room totally chill. But every blue moon it will happen when I am with my family. And usually much more abrupt and painful than just waking up. So it is like a trigger reaction unconsciously to fix it. Less thoughtfully done, not a punch and more gripping my face and shoving. Still looks violent and out of nowhere.

My question is, is this what most of us who go off center do to put it back? Are there subtler ways others have learned? And did your family just adjust and realize you just have to reset sometimes?

(This scenario in public is less than once a month, not personally concerned about seeking solutions beyond immediate)
