I have my own thoughts on their classifications, but I'm left uncertain about which terms to choose when discussing with other people. How do you describe which is which? I know there are explanations for Xianxia, Xianhuan, and Wuxia, but what about period dramas?
When is a drama a historical, an ancient drama, or a costume drama. Is there overlap? Do you use the term Period drama?
Edit: Is there a term you use for costume dramas that are set in a fictionalized past but exclude Xianxias?
And where does Republican Era fit in this?
