$US 50 for 24 hours of internet

Sitting right now on the Celebrity Ascent, needing to do some work on day 8 of an 11 day trip that needs more than the tiny bandwidth of the basic package.

This is how much I was told it would be. Yup.

I would begrudgingly have paid $20 or $30. I’m not expecting something for nothing. And I get that you can buy a package for the whole trip, but I haven’t needed it until now.

It doesn’t seem good business to me that when you have customers paying tens of thousands of dollars for a family cruise to leave them feeling completely suckered over something that has zero marginal cost to you as a company. The amount of money is trivial but it reveals the management ethos. When a customer actually needs something, isn’t in a position to negotiate, and you abuse the power position that you have, this is an important thing for customers to pay attention to. You’re demonstrating that you are not trustworthy.

So congrats Celebrity, you just made $20 and lost my future business.

Nice boat though.
