Olga Marie x Fujimaru at the event

Yes, yes, all that stuff about Lilith is very nice, but nothing will replace those moments between Olga and Fujimaru, which are the best part of the game.

What happened to Marisbury in the other timelines?

It has been confirmed that Marisbury in other timelines, such as Case Files, died shortly after investigating the Holy Grail War.

Olga will be named Lord of Astronomy and heir to Animusphere, which is why she sent Kirshtaria in her place.

Did Lilith just admit that Fujimaru likes Olga?

It's kind of funny that Lilith says Fujimaru likes Olga in her strict and serious director persona

About Mash's new summer wardrobe

The summer event opens with Da Vinci discussing the summer Singularities with Olga and Azrael, touching on typical elements like surfboards and bikinis. Azrael, uninterested in what he deems a standard Singularity, takes his leave; meanwhile, Olga has to review a manual Goredolf hand-wrote for her regarding the bizarre Singularities that crop up from time to time. Next, we see Mash in a new swimsuit that Olga commissioned from Habetrot—Olga felt Mash deserved something new rather than being stuck in the past.

Mash loves the outfit, noting that it strongly reminds her of what Olga wore the previous summer. When Mash asks why Olga isn't wearing a swimsuit herself, Olga replies that she prefers not to, given her role as the Director of Chaldea (though perhaps "Summer Olga" will arrive next year).

Ever since the concept of Olga Marie and Mash being sisters was introduced, the dynamic between them has shifted to resemble that of an older and younger sister rather than a boss and subordinate. This is evident in the approach to their swimsuits this time around, as well as in Olga Marie’s insistence that more resources be allocated to Mash.

What exactly is After Time, and why was it created?

Nasu says that Olga Marie couldn’t be saved at the end of Finale because the narrative needed to address the reality that some lives simply cannot be saved, no matter how hard one tries. He wanted to portray a farewell that offered grace and comfort, blending her characteristic comedic farewell—where she would list the protagonist’s past mistakes—with heartache and gratitude. Although her fate was sealed along with the conclusion of the Animusphere storyline, Nasu admitted that he didn’t anticipate she would become such a deeply beloved and vibrant character. Because of her popularity and character development, he wanted to do something special for her, which ultimately led to the decision to create After Time, centered on her.

According to Kinoko, After Time is as follows:

Nasu: We’ve crossed the summit of the enormous mountain that is the Final Chapter, which means what follows is a slow descent—one I hope you’ll enjoy with us. Maybe there’ll be another fireworks display at the end, or maybe not. Now that there won’t be anything demanding that I give my all like the Final Chapter did, I suppose After Time will be a quiet year. Wait, just one year? Hmm… sure… it won’t take… much longer… right?

Takeuchi: All this time, we’ve viewed Final Chapter as our ultimate goal, and because of that, there’s still a lot we don’t know about our future. However, I think that now that we’ve achieved our specific goal, the idea of creating a *Fun Disk* for the fans is the motivation that will drive us forward. The most important work may already be done, but we all have some special final project we want to complete.

Nasu: I said we’d take it easy, but I want to make it clear that I’ve already decided on the ending. I hope FGO is still capable of surprising us in the end.

What is a Fun Disk?

It refers to the bonus content available after completing the main story of a visual novel, which may include the following:

  1. Post-game stories: These show what happens to the characters after the main game ends.

  2. Side routes: These provide additional information or new stories for secondary characters who didn’t have a full route in the original game.

At Type-Moon, we have a clear example of a “fun disk” with Tsukihime: if we recall the true ending of Arcueid’s route, she ultimately has to leave and abandon the protagonist because they can’t be together. But in the visual novel Kagetsu Tohya, she’s back with Shiki, and they’re able to live a normal life together.

Where have we seen a similar scene? In the ending of FGO, when Olga decides to leave the protagonist to protect him and prevent him from falling into the void with her—but now there’s “After Time” to give the character a better ending without affecting what has already happened.

So is “After Time” not canon?

The answer is yes, it is canon, but it doesn’t overturn the ending she already had in Part 2; rather, it gives her the chance to spend more time with Chaldea and find the happiness she so desperately wanted. That’s what *After Time* is—a special route that exists solely because fans wanted to see more of Olga, and Kinoko fell in love with the character while writing about her.

My main issue with the end of Arc 2 is how Olga Marie's popularity actually undermined the original message of her farewell

Nasu mentioned the following in the *Famitsu* interview:

Nasu: Not every life can be saved. I wanted to write a heartwarming farewell for someone who couldn't be saved, no matter what. Abruptly adding a comic touch to the farewell scene—listing the protagonist's biggest blunders—before incorporating the pain, sadness, and gratitude of the goodbye results in a speech that is quintessentially Olga Marie.

Are you saying she was always destined to be beyond saving?

Nasu: I hadn't thought of it in those terms, but yes, that would be correct. After all, the original plan for the ending was for the conclusion of Part 2 to wrap up the entire Animusphere plotline, ending with the sentiment: "Earth is safe now." That said, I have to admit that while writing about Olga Marie, I grew more attached to her than I ever imagined.

Now, it is true that Olga was originally a simple character—just a standard companion who suffered a horrific death early in the game. Since you hadn't really bonded with her yet, her loss was easy enough to accept. However, Part 2 focuses on Olga from the very beginning with the intention of providing closure, yet she meets the same fate: she ends up practically where she started, albeit with some fond memories and a dignified farewell. She suffers from an issue common to many of the finale's problems: a reluctance to change course due to elements that weren't originally planned. As Nasu mentioned, he didn't expect to get so attached to Olga, yet she ended up appearing quite frequently. She has a summer event, is a party member in LB7, has her own mini-bosses, and is a major focal point of the game's finale. Throughout all of this, she is a character constantly battered by the world; this makes it easy to root for her—both as a player and as a human being—given what she has endured, not to mention the history of illnesses

Nasu reiterates that the script he wrote in 2017 was meant to be followed to the letter, but that didn't happen; the story failed to adapt to the new context and character evolution—Olga's conclusion being the clearest proof of this.

Olga's final scene fails to align with the character developed over eight years of manga and other media. She had outgrown her original purpose without Nasu realizing it; consequently, when she reaches the scene she was created for, it disappoints players who spent half a decade hoping and waiting for her to have a happy ending.

Nasu is clearly aware of this—in that same response, he bases the entire "After Time" plot on the idea that Olga deserved better. Yet, he still chose to include her "death" scene because it was the scene she was created for and had been part of the plan since 2017.

This reminds me of what happened with Oberon: Kinoko loved that character so much that he changed almost the entire ending of Lostbelt 6 to give him a more prominent role. With Olga, however, the issue was more serious, as it affected the planned plot and made him feel like he was betraying both himself and the players by failing to give her a satisfying conclusion. He hadn't imagined that this "seven-minute character" would evolve into what she is now—developing through the "After Time" arc to give fans what they had so fervently requested. It illustrates one of the biggest flaws possible in fiction: deciding on the ending before planning the character development.

About Olga Marie and gyakko interview Famitsu

Nasu says that Olga Marie couldn't be saved at the end of Finale because the narrative needed to address the reality that some lives simply cannot be saved, regardless of one's efforts. He wanted to depict a parting that offered grace and solace, blending her signature comedic farewell—where she ranked the protagonist's past blunders—with heartbreak and gratitude. Although her fate was set in stone alongside the conclusion of the Animusphere storyline, Nasu admitted he did not anticipate her growing into such a deeply beloved, vibrant character. Because of her popularity and development, he wanted to do something special for her, which ultimately led to the decision to set aside an "after time" segment for her.

Nasu also didn't think she would love Olga's character while writing her scenes

Regarding "Gyakkou/Backlight," when part one ended, Kinoko Nasu and Maaya Sakamoto confirmed that she would sing the theme song.

He told her the theme was:

"a girl covered in mud, still fighting on the other side of the storm. The reason that child strives isn't for justice or anything like that, but simply because she has a beautiful memory in her heart, and because you are also striving on this side of the storm. She never considered reward or redemption; it was enough that you knew about it."
