Parent requests
Today, just 2 weeks before school is out for summer, a parent sent my admin a formal letter requesting specific services. I work in a school and the child is seen two times a week in a group. The child was diagnosed at 3 with apraxia, however, I don’t see the characteristics at school (no groping, no vowel issues, consistent sound errors). The parent specifically stated she wants a minimum of 3 individual sessions weekly as well as specific methods such as DTTC. The child has resource as a related service and she also had requests for those services too, but it was mostly changes she wanted for speech. The parent is comparing this student to his twin who has no special needs. The parent also specifically requested 8 weeks of individual speech esy services. Esy never goes every week of the summer for any kid…
I totally understand the parent concerns but the kid is making consistent progress. The kid also has significant attention concerns.
Has anyone navigated a parent requesting very specific services? Are these requests reasonable in a school setting?
