Feelings about Real estate agents and agencies
G'Day Aussies ! Missed you so much from France !
I have a question that might be touchy for some of you, so here's a little exposition beforehand so you could have a better grip on it.
I had the privilege to study down under last year, between 2024 and 2025, as part of an exchange program between my home uni and UTS and I really enjoyed both the Aussie uni life and Sydney as a whole, to the point I feel in love with the city. Real original, I know, but I made my resolve to come settle among you in the foreseeable future.
When I got back in my homeland last July, I wanted to finish my studies properly with an honors year in Business before getting in the job market. Fast forward to today, and after eight gruesome months of searching, I landed an internship... in Real Estate. Specifically, Airbnb conciergerie/short-term rental management. Wasn't my first choice in terms of business sectors, but I had to make due with what I had at the moment.
I'm aware some of you despise real estate agents, considering the insane prices of the houses and less and less affordability in accommodation, especially on the East coast. I've been through it myself as a student, although I had Lady Luck lending me a hand a little.
Hence my question : what are you feelings towards real estate in Australia ? Do you have good/bad experiences ? What are you more sensible about an RE agent beyond buying/selling/renting a home ?
I know RE agents aren't in high demand down under, quite the contrary I presume. Yet, if I have to do my professional life in Real Estate and seek to call Australia my home in the future... let's just say the last thing I want is to be an inconvenience to Aussies. Hell, if I could make a difference on my level... it's worth a shot on my part.
Thanks in advance for your answers !
