Trip to Vietnam later this week, what would you do?
Hi friends. If you’ve ever been to Vietnam or live there, I’d love your feedback on whether you think it’s accessible at this point in my recovery journey.
I’m 12.5 weeks post op and have a week long trip to Vietnam planned for later this week, specifically to Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. Already had to reschedule from March to now because of the injury. I am feeling better now with PT and am getting to a point where I am walking better and at a faster pace. Generally speaking, I am pain free these days. I’ve taken a few trips over the last couple weeks, putting in 8k-10k steps/day with no issues. However, the last couple days, I’ve been experiencing a lot more soreness to the point where I have to rest for a few hours and let my body reset.
My partner is concerned that the long flight, my recent travel, busy/crowded streets and inconsistent sidewalk infrastructure might make this trip unpleasant for me so is thinking that we should pivot to a different destination (i.e., vacation/relaxation vibes rather than traveling/exploratory). This trip has been like a North Star during my recovery, and I’ve been really looking forward to visiting this part of Southeast Asia for the museums, temples, street food, etc. That said, I completely understand my partner’s concerns. I want us both to enjoy ourselves and make the most of the experience, but it is so hard to know which days I’ll feel absolutely fine and which days my body lets me know that it’s had enough.
What would you do in my situation? And if you’ve been to Vietnam, do you think I’d be able to enjoy myself from an accessibility perspective?
Thanks in advance for weighing in!!
