What If? If Rockstar Did This Next After GTA 6?
Imagine Rockstar made a game like Red Dead Redemption 2, but set in 1772 right before the American Revolution.
Honestly I think that setting would go insanely hard.
You’d still have the huge open world and realism from RDR2, but instead of cowboys and the Wild West, it’d be colonial America. Massive forests, muddy towns, British soldiers everywhere, smugglers, pirates, frontier settlements, Native tribes, and political tension building up before the war starts.
The atmosphere alone would be perfect for Rockstar:
foggy forests at sunrise, lantern-lit taverns, storms at sea, muddy streets, tiny towns surrounded by wilderness, muskets firing through the trees at night.
Combat would feel way more brutal too because guns were slow and unreliable back then.
Flintlock pistols, muskets that take forever to reload, bayonets, tomahawks, knives, horseback combat, cannons during battles. Every fight would actually matter because missing a shot could get you killed.
The survival side could be crazy too:
hunting, disease, infections, freezing winters, maintaining your horse, camping in the wilderness, canoe travel, sailing between ports.
And the map possibilities would be insane:
colonial Boston, New York under British control, the Appalachian frontier, swamps, forts, Native settlements, French territory, pirate ports in the Caribbean.
What would make it really good though is Rockstar’s writing. They’d probably make every faction morally gray instead of just “good vs evil.”
Revolutionaries, loyalists, mercenaries, smugglers, spies, tribes trying to survive between empires, all of that.
It feels like one of those settings nobody really uses anymore, but if Rockstar did it with the same detail as RDR2, I honestly think it could be one of the most immersive games ever made.
