Tomb of the Giants by skull lamp light
So I just started yet another run. I wanted to do an RPG character, nothing novel, just a generic Faith/Strength paladin. So of course I started as a Knight. It's an easy start with the armor. I swiped the Zwei from the graveyard, and steamrolled everything, picking up the elite knight armor in Darkroot. I had a bit of trouble With O&S, as I wanted to kill Ornstein last for his armor, and Solaire absolutely wrecked him before I could finish Smough, twice in a row (I quit the game mid-cutscene to reset the fight). Finally, success and that sweet lion armor were mine.
My plan was to go for kindling, and keep going straight through to Nito, since I needed the miracles from Rhea anyway. So here's the thing - I've never played through Tomb of the Giants without the Sunlight Maggot, or Cast Light. I generally go to Izalith before the Tomb, specifically for that reason.
So ... it's a whole different experience with just the lantern. Holding it up, inching forward without a shield up, watching for the next skeleton beast lunging out of the dark. The blue path lights were interesting. I got waylaid by the Black Knight and the skellie beast together. The views from Nito's domain looking out onto Lost Izalith and the arch trees were even more captivating than usual.
Once I got to the final (importantly: lit) limestone area, it was simple. Leeroy got Zwei'd, and Nito and his minions went down easily to my Divine claymore. Now I have my Paladin armor, Grant, Sanctus, Wrath of the Gods, and I'm all set as the Way of White's new champion. But the fun was getting there!
