My players are long resting in Strahd’s tomb. Ideas for how to mess with them?
TL;DR - party is long resting in Strahd’s tomb while he’s staked in the coffin next to them. Let me know how you would mess with them in the night.
At the end of our last session, the party had chased Strahd to his tomb (K8-something), brought him to 0 HP and turned him into an expired kebab (i.e. staked him in his coffin). I’ve used u/MandyMod ‘s fantastic Fleshing Out CoS resources in this game so the party are getting ready to perform a ritual to take on Vampyre.
They believe that, as they have staked Strahd, he is paralysed until the stake is removed. So, logically, they have decided to set up camp in the tomb, with Strahd, impaled in his coffin, lying next to them. They have set a friendly animated armour to keep watch, and they are all planning on taking a long rest.
The last thing I did was ask them all to make a wisdom saving throw, noted down their rolls, and ended the session.
I’ve got a couple of ideas I’m happy with for how to punish them for their hubris reward them for their creative problem solving, but I wanted to pitch this scenario here and see what wild ideas people could come up with for what could happen in the night while they literally sleep in the tomb of the Vampire Lord von Zarovich.
How would you handle this long rest?
(Extra info - party is lvl 10; Ismark, Ireena and Godfrey Gwylim (fated ally) are in attendance.)
