I just wanted to vent a little bit here. I'm a TCG casual, I dabbled briefly in Magic like years upon years ago. I got into Riftbound as my first major card game, I love League, I was enjoying playing. But I'm noticing, as we come into this third set, that my enjoyment is diminishing with each set as the rules get more complicated. Errata specifically are making the game feel more opaque to me, on top of the regular addition of new mechanics.
On the one hand, I appreciate an evolving meta. And I recognize that new sets are part of the way of the world. But just being honest with how I feel, the parade of new cards, new mechanics, and errata is overwhelming to me as a casual player of the game, and has diminished my interest in collecting cards across sets.
Among my fears now are - I went pretty heavy on buying some boxes on early sets to build up a collection with cards I wanted. I went in trying to get my Sett deck in the first set, and so on. And now I feel like the game isn't intuitive without having a lot of the cards re-printed to match the updated rules.
I just sit here wondering how the game preserves engagement for casual players while having a rapidly evolving rule set and continuous new mechanics? Does it even matter?
