Adult coyote or juvenile wolf?

Found this skull in Threeforks MT, likely a car strike. My guess is that it was struck and killed a few
Months ago while or before snow. Thinking the canines are too big for a domestic dog. Fur was left over and was rather white.

Context: I have a 2.5 y/o cattle dog who has lived in the desert his entire life and I give him bathes every 2-3 weeks. I have used the same shampoo since he was born and has never had problems. He lives indoors but we get outside and everyday and he plays in a field off leash most days.

His last bath was 7 days ago and last night I was petting him and felt some hard bumps. This morning I cut away his fur so I could clean the area and keep it dry. These scabs are only on his lower back, along the spine above the hips. I checked his ears and skin for mites and fleas but I don’t see anything. He isn’t itchy and luckily these sores are in an area that he can’t reach even if he wanted to scratch them.

Today I washed the area with Castile soap, let it dry and then applied silver honey to it.

Am I right to be assuming that this is a hot spot or is there something more serious I am missing? Thanks!
