My wife and I are planning a combined first wedding anniversary and honeymoon trip to Sri Lanka, and we’d love some advice from this community to help us iron out the details.

I’m a professional photographer/videographer, so we are really looking for visually stunning locations. We both absolutely love a good mix of beaches, mountains, and forests.

Here is what we have so far:

The Logistics:

• Dates: June 27, 2026 – July 4, 2026 (8 Days / 7 Nights)
• Arrival: Flying from Chennai to Colombo
• Departure: Taking the ferry from Jaffna back to Chennai

Since we are starting in the south/west and leaving from the far north, we have a lot of ground to cover!

What we need help with:

1. Itinerary Suggestions: What is the best route to travel from Colombo to Jaffna over 8 days that lets us experience beaches, the hill country/mountains, and forests without spending our entire trip in transit?
2. Accommodation: We are looking for the best affordable Airbnbs or unique boutique stays. Any hidden gems with great views?
3. Local Food: What are the absolute must-try dishes and local spots we should hit along our route?
4. The Basics: We need some clarity on the logistics. What is the best tourist SIM card for data coverage across the country? Are ATMs easily accessible along this route, and is cash preferred over cards for daily expenses?

Any advice, specific photography spots, or tips on navigating from Colombo up to Jaffna would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!
