New Hognose Owner Questions
Hello! So, 2 days ago I brought home a small guy (~2 months old, according to the guy at the pet shop). He is my first ever snake, and so I just wanted to ask a few just-in-case type of questions.
First off, as soon as I let him loose in his new enclosure he found a comfy place to burrow and disappeared. I haven't seen him since. From what I can tell this is pretty typical for a snake like this, especially since he ate the day before I got him, so between stress and digestion he's probably going to want to take some time. However, the guy at the pet shop stressed several times how important it was to make sure he always had fresh water. I've been changing his water daily just in case, but I've yet to see him come up to drink. Is there any need for me to show him the water, or should I just rely on him to come look for it when he's ready?
Secondly, I got a pretty basic setup right now, really just an enclosure with a light, a little half-log for him to hide, and a water bowl. I'd like to get a few more decorations, just in case he eventually decides he wants to interact with them. When I do, should I add them right away, or wait for him to be more comfortable? Additionally, when I do add them, if it makes sense for the base to go beneath the substrate (Like in the case of a rock, for example), should I worry about disturbing any existing tunnels he's made?
Thanks in advance!
