Hemorrhoid treatment without Health Insurance (My experience in America)

Here I’m going to talk about my most recent Thrombosed Hemorrhoid, how I treated it at home, what led to a non-insured visit to an urgent care and what the outcome was physically and financially. See the bottom for the ultimate outcome regarding cost regarding a simple visit and prescription.

On April 25th I started noticing symptoms of another hemorrhoid. A few days later the pain came, I did what I’ve always done to treat it. Applied Prep H 2-4 times a day and increased fiber and added fiber supplements to diet but even after the pain subsided it still stayed there.

After 1 week in I started sitz baths for the first time and did that consistently for about two weeks with no real improvement. Still no pain but mild discomfort occasionally and a stiff purple bump. I decided it was time to bite the bullet and head to an urgent care.

I called prior to my visit to confirm pricing, at least in my area in Georgia, it was a $176 out of pocket payment up front or $350 if I wanted a pay plan. I headed there the same day and paid $176 up front. I was asked about symptoms, timing and self treatment before having it visually examined. I was reassured that it wasn’t dire but they did prescribe me Hydrocortisone cream for better assistance which has so far helped tremendously.

Over all I paid ~$200 out of pocket for both the visit and the prescription which truthfully, is a lot cheaper than what most health insurance policies may cost a month. Maintaining a policy is always a smart idea but I wanted to share this incase there are others who are in my boat with not coverage and afraid of the health insurance industry. Some cases may be different but hopefully this acts as a nice reassurance for those to get the help they need.

3 week old thrombose, no pain or discomfort just a hard lump. Does it look like an improving Hemorrhoid?

Before I’ve only applied Prep H and increased my fiber but this one seems to be a bit more stubborn. 3 weeks of prep H and high fiber, 2 weeks of sitz baths, I’m controlling my bowel movements and I’ve stopped working out for the past 3 weeks. The only aggravating factor if any is how often I may sit down, but even then I make sure to take walks, stand and lay down.
