Laid Off

I’m a second year apprentice In the east coast of Canada and got laid off a couple months ago. I’ve been picking up work in a unrelated felid while looking for line work(which feels like a major waste of time towards my blocks). The company I was with bought another smaller company which brought in a handful of new guys all of which where at least a year more advanced than me, so naturally I got the boot. I’ve been looking for anything in the maritimes while also being open to fly in fly out type work with no luck. Also been talking to companies and other local guys about any leads but everything seems to be a dead end. I’ve been told by many guys now that getting laid off in the early years is normal but it’s really starting to feel like this might not work out since the other half of the people I’ve spoke too say there’s always work and you just gatta want it, that hasn’t proven to be true yet. Anyone know about any jobs around or what I should do next/ any advice ?

Career change

There’s a wait list for school right now so I have lots of time to think but I’m heavily considering a huge career change into paralegal work. I’ve always been into the trades and have gone to school for trades. Currently I’m a power-line technician and love the work but I’m thinking about making the switch to white-collar work for a change. I’m highly interested in the legal profession and have a great work ethic and high attention to detail. Is this a good field to get into if I’m looking to go back to school? And any advice from someone whose had a similar experience would be greatly appreciated.
