Just to summarize my situation because I think I'm in a gray area:

-I'm a recent graduate from New York looking to move to France because the rent is cheaper and the company I signed with is based there so I need to work EU time zone (I work remote).

-I signed a freelance contract with them because I'm doing internship work (can't get intern visa because I'm no longer a student) and the company didnt want the commitment of a CDD for the 6 month contract.

-My visa appointment is June 11th and I've been in the process of trying to get the SMOE opinion (I applied saying I'm creating my own business).

-I've seen on here that I may get rejected because it will look like the company I work for is trying to disguise my work as freelance.

I'm still waiting on SMOE and worried I'll get rejected but even if I get approved I'm nervous for the visa appointment because I honestly don't know what to say if they interrogate me on my situation. Yes I have no real reason to move to France and yes I never intended on doing freelance work but this is the situation I found myself in.

Should I reschedule my appointment until I hear back from SMOE (my lease in NY ends July 31st and I planned on moving to France by then so I'm cutting it kind of close)?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated :)
