Accidental Modern Day Typewriter

I accidentally recreated a modern day typewriter. It’s only day two and I can’t believe how much fun I’m having typing. When I looked at my creation after the build, it looked so much like a typewriter I immediately downloaded the Hanx Writer app to my iPhone. With the authentic look and sound of the app, I am immediately transported back to the 1970s when I learned to type on a manual typewriter in the 7th grade.
It’s just a wooden dock for my iPhone with a bluetooth keyboard and comfortable wrist rest built in. Something about the combo of a comfortable typing ergonomic and solid one piece design and that sound of typing with the Hanx writer app’s focused writing screen. I think I forgot how freeing it was to just type on a typewriter.

For decades (starting with a palm pilot with a folding keyboard in the 1990s), I’ve been chasing a portable convenient and simple writing set up. My current setup is just the result of realizing the most important thing about the setup is to just write. So it’s literally a deck with a magnetic ring, glued to the top of a bluetooth keyboard. Simple, low effort, inexpensive and reminding me to just pick it up and write. I guess that’s what I realized after a few decades, the most important thing is to just write.
