Heading down to Port Grimaud area tomorrow from the north west of England, starting from the St Malo ferry port on Friday with a planned overnight stop in Clermont Ferrand on Friday night

I'm trying to decide which is the best route from Clermont Ferrand, to Port Grimaud...the A7 via Lyon or the A75 and A8 via Montpellier? Google maps says the A7 route is quicker by half an hour but I've been caught in traffic around Lyon in the past and wondered whether the A75 route might be better on a Saturday, taking in the Millau bridge etc?.
