5th Gen flash mod troubleshooting - Continuous "beep/clicking" loop with Samsung EVO Plus 128GB
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to flash mod my iPod 5th Generation (Video) using a 128GB Samsung EVO Plus MicroSD card and one of those adapters from AliExpress. However, I’m stuck in a frustrating continuous "beeping/clicking" loop from the motherboard, and the iPod won't boot or display anything.
I have a reliable PC and an external USB card reader, and I’ve already tried almost every software combination using AOMEI Partition Assistant, but nothing stops the beeping. Here is a list of what I’ve already done so the community can help me pinpoint the issue:
- Software/Formatting tried:
- Formatted to MBR + FAT32 (wiping partitions first, rebuilding MBR via AOMEI). Still beeping.
- Formatted to GPT (GUID) + exFAT (after seeing a review on the AliExpress listing saying this specific adapter needed a GUID/exFAT map to boot with the EVO Plus). Still beeping.
- Hardware checks:
- Tested booting directly from a strong wall charger with the battery completely disconnected (to rule out a dead battery issue). The loop persists.
- Reseated the ZIF ribbon cable multiple times, ensuring it is perfectly straight and pushed all the way in. I also tried flipping the ribbon cable orientation just in case.
- Tested with a spare SanDisk card, but the continuous beep/click remains identical.
Since the Samsung EVO Plus is usually the gold standard for compatibility, and the issue happens even with another card, I'm starting to suspect either a completely defective AliExpress adapter or a damaged ZIF ribbon cable.
Has anyone encountered this exact persistent beeping loop on a 5th gen even after trying both MBR/FAT32 and GPT/exFAT? Is there any obscure trick I'm missing?
Thanks in advance for the help!
