Our unit has had some adventures, leading to (what I think is a new) low buzz/hum sound. In chronological order:
- We had some construction done in the living room, and the unit was very gently moved by our HVAC installer while we replace drywall behind it.
- It was meticulously covered during the construction, but we taped the drywall in January when the temps were very low, so we had to turn it on to heat and avoid the mud cracking when drying. It resulted in fine dust getting onto the drum.
- We noticed that the drum was not turning anymore a few weeks ago. This is when we noticed the unit making this low buzz-hum sound.
- Turned off the unit as soon as we realized the drum was not turning, to preserve the motor.
- We deep-cleaned the unit, drum and unit runs as normal now, but the buzz/hum remains.

I have another identical unit in the basement, which does make that sounds if you put your ear to the casing, but it’s not that noticeable.

Is this the expected noise of the unit, and I just never noticed until now? (Totally willing to believe it, our living room has no furniture right now so it’s a bit echo-y).
OR
Did the many “adventures” over the winter indeed did something that would warrant a call to a professional?
